FAQ: Where's my Refund?
For many clients, finding out they are getting a Income Tax Refund can feel a little bit like winning the lottery. A sudden windfall of cash that unexpectedly drops in your lap can be exciting. So, when we file the tax return and the refund takes longer than expected to arrive, clients can sometimes get antsy. It's important to understand that once a return has been filed, our office has no control over what happens next. However, there are some tools available to help keep your anxiety at bay.
IRS Where's My Refund is the website we use (and you can too) to check the status of your tax refund. It will ask you a little bit of information to verify your identity, and then will tell you where in process your refund is. You can find that website here: https://www.irs.gov/refunds
Some states have similar functions on their websites as well. Colorado's can be found here: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/tax/wheres-my-refund
These are the same tools we would use to look up refund status, so if you're wondering where the heck your refund is, go ahead and use this insider tip to check on the status as often as you would like.
And when it arrives, try not to spend it all in one place.
