Business We Love: Front Range Insurance
Over the years, I have realized that in order to own a successful business, it's important to have a great support network.
As I reflect on who has helped me to go from a Solopreneur at my dining room table to where we are today, the team at Front Range Insurance immediately comes to mind. Over the years there have been a few times that I was so glad to have them as a resource for me in running my business.
First, a little back story.
When I graduated from my Home Office to the first ever commercial office space, Front Range Insurance was my neighbor. Their office was directly under mine, and I would pop in to say "hi" when I was bored or lonely (I didn't have staff at that time). Over the years, Jessica has become a great friend to me, and her team is a wonderful asset whenever I have questions or am experiencing growing pains. There has been a few times specifically that I have been particularly glad that they have been my insurance provider.
That time when I initially became their client and they pointed out some BIG gaps in my previous coverage.
When I started my company, I knew that I needed insurance, but I didn't know much more about it. So I did what any new business owner in does. I googled it, called some 800 number and got myself some insurance from a company I recognized from the commercials they air during football games. "Good," I thought, "now I am covered and I can move on to the next thing." I couldn't have been more wrong.
A little over a year later, I've become friends with Jessica and her team. I am about to hire my first employee (yay!) and I know it will mean adding more insurance. So, I take my existing policy documents to Jessica and ask her to tell me what additional coverage I should get in light of my soon-to-be-employer status.
Not only did the team at Front Range Insurance get me some excellent work comp coverage, but they also reviewed all the existing coverage to find that I had massive gaps. For example, the 1-800 guys hadn't written my coverage to include payroll services (which represented about 30% of the revenue I was earning)! I was so glad that I didn't have to find that information out the hard way, and immediately knew I needed to transfer all of my existing commercial policies over to their agency.
That time when I had to fire that bad employee.
Once upon a time I had an employee who turned out to be a pretty bad egg. After I fired them, we were short staffed and cleaning up messes they'd made, and I was incredibly anxious about the future. It was a really dark and discouraging time.
I called my friend Jessica to find out what I was covered for, in a worst case scenario. Not only did she take the time to learn the entire story, including all of my anxieties and emotions related to it, but she walked me through all of the worst case scenarios. She made sure that I understood what could happen, what I was covered for, and how my business was going to weather the storm.
After talking with Jessica I felt more confident about my next steps. I felt reassured that everyone was going to be taken care of if things went from bad to worse, and I realized that I no longer needed to spend time or energy worrying that this one bad employee had killed my company. It was a rough time (and a rough few months afterwards weathering the storm), but it was an excellent reminder that we don't buy insurance assuming everything is going to great forever. We buy insurance so that we don't have to worry if something goes horribly wrong. And every seasoned Business Owner will tell you; something will eventually go horribly wrong.
That time when we went through a big growth spurt.
At the end of 2018 we had some massive growth in both staff and client volume, and having Front Range Insurance in my corner was super important once again. For example, I didn't realize that when I hired Kendall to do prospecting in the field, I needed to add Non-owned Auto coverage so that she would be covered when she was driving to her meetings.
Jessica's team has also ensured that my coverage has scaled with my business appropriately, since our medium sized company requires very different coverage limits than what I needed when I only had a dozen or so clients.
As I expand services, Front Range Insurance has always been my first call to make sure that I'm covered for the services that we're now going to be offering.
Moral of the story: you never want to find out the hard way that you didn't have insurance that it turns out you needed. Thanks to the team at Front Range Insurance, I never worry about this with my Commercial Insurance. If you have a business, especially an accounting firm, you'd be well served to get in touch with the team at Front Range Insurance to cover your business. It's one of the best decisions I've made as a business owner.
